NOVA SCOTIA CANADA GAMES GIRLS SOFTBALL PROGRAM
HEAD COACH POSITION
The head coach is responsible for directing all areas affecting the Girls Canada Games program. This position reports directly to the Technical Chair of Softball Nova Scotia’s Canada Games program.
General Responsibilities
Serve as first point of contact for Canada Games Girls Softball program.
Lead athlete scouting, evaluation and selection of players.
In conjunction with assistant coach and team manager lead planning, organizing and conducting practices.
Direct operations of the team during the course of the game.
Lead or designate scouting and evaluation of opponents.
Lead or delegate on-field and off-field supervision of players.
Assist with formation of team game plan, and preparation of game line ups.
Work in cooperation with coaching staff to motivate and support the players in order to achieve team goals and objectives.
Provide annual evaluation report to chair of technical committee containing observations on player selection, team performance, and general recommendations about the program.
Other duties as assigned by Technical Chair.
Specific Responsibilities
Provide technical, tactical, psychological support to Canada Games Girls Softball program.
Regular consultation with the athletes on an individual basis to assist with their development.
Develop and lead structured training sessions at evaluation camps, selection camps, min-camps and competitions designed to address problem areas of each athlete and improve their ability to become a competent ball player at the national level. .
Recommend testing protocols as required designed to assess overall softball skills.
Supervise all practice sessions and provide feedback as required.
Coordinate and supervise daily in-competition training sessions as required.
Provide resource materials to athletes that reinforce the principles of sound fundamental softball skills.
